AIC and our shareholders are partners in our efforts to harness the collective strength of our farmers to manage and utilise the natural resources of the Hurunui-Waiau for the prosperity of farming, family and our community. We regularly publish information we hope our farmers will find useful.
Ordering Water
All AIC water users (on both the pipe and open race) need to lodge orders notifying us when they intend to take water from the scheme. Water ordering helps us understand and plan the supply of water to meet irrigation demand. With little storage capacity in the open races, it is important that sufficient water is always available and delivered from the river intakes so that air does not enter the pipe intakes, while avoiding excessive amounts of water being by-washed.

We have a web portal where you can access your water usage information and lodge orders. The portal can be accessed on computers and mobile phones - click the ‘Order Water’ button in the top right of your screen. To access the water ordering portal directly you can type https://orders.amuriirrigation.co.nz into the browser on your PC, or https://orders.amuriirrigation.co.nz/mobile/login on your phone. There are some variances in functionality between using the portal on your phone and computer. We recommend you use your phone if possible.
AIC will provide you with a password. When you login the first time you be prompted to change your password (at least eight characters required). If you forget your password at any stage please call us and we will reset it.
Text messages and emails are sent from the portal to our water users regarding supply issues, restrictions and scheme maintenance. Larger farming operations may find it helpful to utilise additional user logins and we are happy to set these up for you.

Once you are logged into the system you can view the status of your operating and pending orders.
To place an order:
Scroll down to the New Order tab and select the required offtake. If you have more than one offtake you should be able to identify it by the maximum flow rate allocated to that offtake.
Enter the Start Time and Start Date when you will be turning the irrigation system on by using the buttons.
Either add the Duration for the irrigation cycle or alternatively add the Finish Time and Finish Date.
Fill in the Flow Rate (l/s) required or alternatively drag the slide bar across to the desired flow.
Click on Lodge to submit the order.
For those with multiple offtakes follow the above procedure for those offtakes. Please be aware that if ordering days out in the future, amendments may need to be made to orders if circumstances or weather changes.
The portal view is slightly different when using a computer but the process is basically the same.

Go to the home screen and click on the order you want to change. If the order is still pending you can Cancel Order or Change Start Time using the buttons provided. Likewise if circumstances change during an operating order you can Change Finish Time or Change Flow Rate. Click on the home button at the top left of the screen to return to the homepage.

It is important that we can communicate with water users regarding scheme water supply issues via text or email. You can check your contact details are correct in the system via the Communication Settings at the bottom of the home screen. If your staff change, please let us know.
Activities on Easement Land
The Water Supply Agreement places restrictions on the activities which Farmers, their teams and contractors can undertake within Easement Land, to protect AIC infrastructure. Certain activities require prior written approval from AIC.

It is critical that you, your team and contractors know where AIC’s pipe is buried and you maintain a safe offset distance when working at depth within the vicinity of any scheme pipework. We offer a free pipe location service and also encourage the use of www.beforeudig.co.nz, an online system that is commonly used by contractors to obtain information on the location of cables, pipes and other utility assets in and around any proposed dig site. Your property is likely to have pipe markers on fencelines showing where underground pipe lies, and a sign at the gate to warn contractors. More information is on our Location page.

Shares run with the land. If you sell your land that has current shares attached, you must transfer those shares to the new landowner (unless you are retaining a portion of that land). The shares cannot be transferred separately or alienated from the property.
If you are subdividing, the appropriate parcel of shares will be allocated to each block. Please notify us as soon as possible if you are subdividing or transferring part of your land. If you have surplus A or D shares, you may apply to transfer those shares to either a current shareholder or a landowner within our consented command area. Any consent is entirely at the discretion of the Board. The Board will consider several factors when evaluating any transfer which may include, but are not limited to, availability of water in the relevant area, offtake arrangements and access to AIC’s infrastructure.
Once you notify us that you wish to buy or sell shares, we will draft a share transfer to be signed by both parties. The purchaser will also need to enter into a new Water Supply Agreement. The purchaser will be invoiced a drafting fee of $200 plus GST which must be paid before we will complete any transfer. All shareholders must have a current water supply agreement. Once the transfer is approved by the Board, AIC will sign the water supply agreement and issue a share certificate. The share register will be updated to record the new shareholder and they will receive an original of the water supply agreement and a copy of the share certificate.

We endeavour to provide a safe and healthy working environment, without undue risk, for our own team, our contractors, landowners and members of the public. We acknowledge that our shareholders are likely to have their own health and safety requirements - which may change on a seasonal basis - that we must comply with. We invite you to forward any relevant documentation to us at operations@amuriirrigation.co.nz so that it can be distributed to our team.
Strict hygiene practices are adhered to by the AIC team, including laundering of contaminated work clothes, ensuring vehicles are clean, and if required rinsed off before exiting the farm by using the yard hoses, and ensuring all footwear is cleaned and disinfected and clothing and vehicles are clean before entering another farm. Please advise AIC of any known hazards and risks which we may encounter on shareholder property, and notify us of any biosecurity issues that may compromise the safety of our team or those we come into contact with.

Irrigating on the road is defined as any water from an irrigator that directly hits the road surface. This breaches the Water Supply Agreement and is also a health and safety risk where farmers may be found liable for any damage or accident that occurs. We encourage farmers to check their irrigators regularly and consider adding wind tolerance into their on-farm systems (through shelter or technology). We want AIC farmers to be responsible water users who value water and use it in the most efficient way possible.
Three Strikes Warning System
First Warning: Offending Irrigator turned off. Contact On-Farm Irrigation Supplier to request remediation options. Do not resume Irrigation until remedied.
Second Warning: Water Supply restricted for 48 hours. Shareholder to provide written confirmation of resolution/a plan outlining the proposed solution (via technology or wind management).
Third Warning: Water Supply restricted until a permanent resolution achieved. Notice of breach of Water Supply Agreement to Board and disciplinary measures taken.

Farm System Changes
A Farm System Change application is required when there is:
A change in dairy cow wintering practice, either on-farm or off-farm
An increase in milking cow numbers by more than 5%
Conversion to winter milking
An increase of cattle numbers by more than 10%
Any ‘new’ irrigation area (dryland conversion)
Any change in irrigation infrastructure covering more than 25% of the farm
Any increase in Intensive Winter Grazing
The addition of a feed pad, stand off pad or cow home
Any change that could increase nitrogen loss by more than 5kg/ha
